Frequently Asked Questions
What if 15 minutes isn’t enough time?
If it looks like your call is going to take more than 15 minutes, your lawyer will let you know so that you can either extend the call or wrap the conversation up. If you’re having a productive discussion and decide to continue, it’s a flat rate of $39 per additional 15 minutes.
What if I end up needing more than advice?
Most Goodlawyer customers get the answers they need in a single Advice Session, but some situations require more than advice. If you need something bigger, like an incorporation or drafting an agreement, your lawyer will give you an upfront fixed-price quote for the work. If you decide to proceed with the work, you won’t pay anything until after the work is done.
How does the guarantee work?
We guarantee that you will get high quality legal help. Your card is not charged until after your service is done, and if you are unsatisfied with the quality of your service or your lawyer, we will refund you up to $100. Simply contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org to initiate the refund process with our customer success team.
Do I need a lawyer in my province?
For most business law questions the answer is “no”. For employment and commercial tenancy related issues, it’s best to speak to a lawyer who has experience in your province. Goodlawyer has lawyers all over Canada with diverse experiences and specializations. If your lawyer doesn’t think they can answer your question due to a provincial issue, Goodlawyer will find another Good Lawyer who can help you.
What about free consultations?
Generally speaking Free Consultations are just sales meetings for law firms. They assess your situation and try to find which services they can sell you on an expensive upfront retainer instead of answering your quick questions. Advice Sessions are different because the lawyers have a duty to provide real answers under the limited scope retainer.
