How do we find our Good Lawyers?

Learn more about Goodlawyer's vetting and onboarding process for the lawyers in our network.

Welcome! If you’re visiting this page, you’re probably a founder who wants a little more peace-of-mind on how we select and vet lawyers, or you’re a lawyer looking to grow your practice and are curious about joining our network.

Below we’ve outlined the steps of our lawyer onboarding process for full transparency.

STEP 1: Lawyer fills out an application form, or is recruited by our internal team

Goodlawyer accepts applications from lawyers across Canada with at least 3 years of practice experience in one or more of the following areas of law:

  • Corporate Commercial;
    • Incorporatations & Corporate Maintenance
    • Contracts & Transactions
    • Buying & Selling a Business (Mergers & Acquisitions)
    • Debt & Equity Financings (Private Companies)
    • Franchise
    • Commercial Real Estate
  • Employment;
  • Intellectual Property;
    • Trademarks
    • Patents
    • IP Agreements
  • Cybersecurity, Data Protection & Privacy
  • Business Immigration
  • Commercial Disputes;
    • Employment
    • Corporate
  • Wills & Estates
Note that Goodlawyer does not seek "generalist" lawyers. We are looking for lawyers who are highly specialized, skilled, and want to focus on a limited selection of practice areas.

STEP 2: The Good Fit Interview

After doing some background research on an applicant, like checking their website, LinkedIn profile, Google reviews, and verifying that there are no records of misconduct or complaints logged with their respective Law Societies, the next step is their first interview with our Head of Lawyer Experience.

The purpose of this interview is to get to know the lawyer on a more personal level and ensure that they have the requisite skill, experience, and client-first mentality to serve Goodlawyer customers.

We also take a moment to share Goodlawyer’s mission and philosophy, provide an overview of how the platform works, and give the lawyer an opportunity to ask any questions about practicing on Goodlawyer.

STEP 3: The Good Lawyer Interview

If a lawyer has the chops to make it this far, the next step in our lawyer vetting process is a more thorough deep-dive interview with our Chief Legal Officer. This interview investigates a lawyer's practice history, skills, philosophy as a lawyer (and a human), and sets clear expectations for practicing over Goodlawyer.

STEP 4: We dub thee a Good Lawyer — welcome to the team!

Last but not least, one of our Legal Experience Managers will help the lawyer create their profile, re-iterate important platform policies, and walk them through our online platform one more time. It’s our goal to ensure that lawyers hit the ground running and feel confident serving clients using the Goodlawyer platform.

Once a lawyer is active in our network, they are publicly reviewed by their clients and monitored by our team to make sure that customers and lawyers alike are having a great experience using Goodlawyer.
