What's an Initial Consultation?

An Initial Consultation on Goodlawyer is a free meeting with a lawyer in our network. These meetings are intended to meet a lawyer, give them information about your business, your legal issue, and discuss how they can help you.

Initial Consultations are NOT legal advice and are NOT for ongoing legal services or back-to-back calls. If you require legal advice, please book a Legal Strategy Session (60min).

Frequently Asked Questions

What if I don't like my lawyer or they can't help me?

Not every match is perfect. We have a robust network of lawyers across Canada and would be happy to help you find the right lawyer for your business. If your first lawyer isn't a good fit, you can book another lawyer, or contact our Legal Concierge™ team for assistance.

Is there a limit on Initial Consultations?

Not yet. We want you to find the right lawyer and we're committed to getting you there. The only limit we impose is that you only have one Initial Consultation booked at a time, so you can give each lawyer your full attention. We monitor Initial Consultations closely and will intervene if the need arises.

Do I need a lawyer in my province?

For most business legal issues the answer is “no”. For employment and commercial tenancy related issues, it’s best to speak to a lawyer who has experience in your province. Goodlawyer has lawyers all over Canada with diverse experiences and specializations. If your lawyer doesn’t think they can answer your question due to a provincial issue, Goodlawyer will find another Good Lawyer who can help you.

"Easy access to professional advice. Never would have been able to afford and get an actual lawyer without a service like this. Put my mind at ease without ever needing to leave my couch!"
